The leaders of ARBO-ZOONET WP6, Onder Ergonul and Rob Moormann will organized a symposium entitled: Interventions against WNV, RVFV and CCHFV: Where are we? in Istanbul, Turkey.
The symposium consisted of 3 themes, 1) Vaccines: new and existing ones, 2) Antivirals: existing and new developments, and 3) Anti-vector therapies. Besides there was a satellite workshop on epidemiology and diagnosis. Divided among the themes there were 23 oral presentations; 11 in theme 1, 7 in theme 2, 2 in theme 3 and 3 in the satellite workshop. Of these presentations 10 were given by ARBO-ZOONET members participating in WP6. The rest of the presentations were given by external experts not, or only on the side, participating in ARBO-ZOONET. As the intention of the symposium was to give a state of the art overview of progress under the different themes, and on the basis of that identify (research) gaps, this was only logical. A significant part of the top research in these fields is namely performed outside of Europe. Of the about 30 participants 3 were from the USA, 1 from Canada, and 1 from Australia.
