The 2010 Tick Taxonomy Workshop, held in Pendik Veterinary Control and Research Institute (Istanbul, Turkey) was jointly organised by the projects Arbo-Zoonet and ICTTD-3. The workshop brought together 25 young scientists from Armenia, Georgia, United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Germany and Turkey. The lecutures Abdalla Latif (South Africa), Ali Bouattour (Tunisia) and Heloise Heyne (South Africa) trained the participants on theoretical and practical basis in tick ecology, tick collection, tick dissection and of course in tick identification.
Topics of the workshop:
Theoretical: Tick ecology, basics of tick identification, ticks of the Mediterranean, biotopes of Mediterranean ticks
Practical training: Identification of different tick genera and tick species, collection of ticks in the field and from animals, dissection of collected ticks, identification of collected ticks
